One of the main themes of the Association's medium-term plan is sustainable insurance. In addition to topics such as the safe energy transition and sustainable investment policy, sustainable damage repair is also mentioned as one of the ambitions. Together with Schoonmakend Nederland and NIVRE (Dutch Institute of Registered Experts Foundation), the Dutch Association of Insurers signed the Sustainable Damage Repair Manifesto in June 2023.

What does our ambition entail?

Sustainable repair should be common practice in 2027 when dealing with claims, rather than replacing them. By sustainable repair we mean repairing damage with minimal impact on the environment and maximum efficiency, with a strong incentive to reduce CO2 emissions in the handling process. It's not just about repairing the damage, but also about using eco-friendly materials, reducing waste, and preserving the quality and value of the items. By embracing sustainability when repairing damage, the chain contributes to a greener future.

What do insurers do?

Many insurers are already recovering sustainably. In a series on sustainable damage repair, insurers have their say to share their experiences. They answer questions such as: how far along are they with sustainable damage repair, what are they already doing and can they do?

What do Schoonmakend Nederland and NIVRE do?

These organisations are also working hard to get sustainable damage repair between the ears. They regularly publish articles on this topical and important topic. Take a look at their site: NIVRE and Schoonmakend Nederland.

Project groups manifesto

We have the ambition to make sustainable damage repair commonplace in the property market. Together with the entire chain, because that's where the strength lies. We achieve this by developing the programme on the basis of three sub-themes:

  • Mobility & people
  • Energy equipment
  • Circularity equipment

Over the past six months, an inventory has been made of which topics can serve as a pilot, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions within the claims process. This was done in six project groups and led to 18 improvement measures that are being implemented.

Until the end of December, a pilot will be prepared and a CO2 0 measurement will be carried out, after which it will be tested in practice early next year. CO2 1 measurements are taken.

The manifesto has three phases: January to June 2024, August to December 2024 and January to June 2025. In the first phase, an inventory was made of the potential improvement measures and a top three was defined.

In phase 2, the project group members involved will work on three detailed improvement measures to prepare for a pilot and perform a CO2 0 measurement. In the third phase, they will then test these improvement measures in practice. CO2 1 measurements are taken.

These results will be communicated transparently, so stay connected!

More information and participation

Of course, we don't achieve this alone. We need the entire damage chain. Would you like more information or sign up right away? Send us an email.
